FAQs

The Canadian Centre for Nonprofit Digital Resilience pronounced “Cinder” is a national initiative that supports nonprofits across Canada in strengthening digital capacity and digital resilience.
We focus on practical research, applied learning, and coordinated collaboration across three focus areas: Data, Cybersecurity Readiness, and Emerging Technology.
Our role is to connect, convene, and coordinate. We do not build standalone tech solutions. We work alongside the sector to strengthen the conditions that allow nonprofits to adapt and thrive in a digital environment.
For our work:
Nonprofits are incorporated organizations, charities, and mission driven entities that operate for public benefit rather than private profit.
Grassroots organizations are unincorporated groups that are community led, locally organized, and often volunteer driven.
We intentionally include both in our work.
Digital capacity means having the people, practices, and systems to put technology to work in practical, effective ways.
This includes skills, workflows, governance, and decision making not just tools.
Digital resilience is what follows from digital capacity.
It is the ability to adapt, stay secure, and continue serving communities as conditions change. It includes responding to cybersecurity threats, managing data responsibly, and navigating emerging technologies with confidence and care.
We work with nonprofits and grassroots organizations of all sizes, alongside the boards, funders, and partners who support them.
While our work engages the entire ecosystem, we intentionally prioritize and centre the needs of small and equity-denied nonprofits, including those serving rural, BIPOC, disability-serving, newcomer, and language diverse communities.
Larger organizations play an important role by sharing models, experience, and infrastructure so progress is collective and sustainable.
No.
Many of the organizations we work with are early in their digital journey. Our resources and programs are designed to be practical, accessible, and grounded in real nonprofit contexts.
You do not need technical expertise to participate.
CoLabs are structured, time bound collaborative initiatives.
They bring together nonprofits, community contributors, and subject matter experts to co create practical solutions to shared digital challenges.
Each CoLab is anchored in one of our focus areas: Data management & Literacy, Cybersecurity Readiness, or Emerging Technology.
CoLabs are not vendor led projects. They are collaborative spaces designed for applied learning, testing, and delivery.
